The Neighborhood Was Buzzing

This past weekend there was more activity in my neighborhood than I have seen in at least three years. Some people were moving out and others moving in. There were some bringing in new furniture. Chain saws were buzzing doing some trimming and cutting down shrubs and trees that needed care. Lawns were mowed and trimmed and fallen leaves were removed. Some were adding porches to their homes, some were fencing in their backyards and some putting on a new roof.

My son-in-law and I got some pruning done in my yard and he fixed a water leak that I had recently discovered. I am so thankful he was able to take care of the leak and I did not have to hire a plumber. Good reliable plumbers are difficult to find in my area and if we do find one they are very expensive.

Little Chancy Man had his 15th birthday yesterday. We spent time outside walking and we played fetch. He slept while I worked inside.

Chancy had a great birthday.

I am still culling and getting windows and doors winterized. I have filled the trunk of the car with boxes of things to donate. Now if I can remember to take them to the donation drop off on my next outing. The cooler weather has really put me in a mood to get things done.

It amazes me how much has accumulated in my home that I never use and never will but someone else can. There is one more closet I need to clear out, but there are things stored in it that do not belong to me and I don’t know when the people will come to get them. There is one item too heavy for me to move but I am hoping to be able to work around it. It just feels great to be able to get done what I have so far.

This morning I baked biscuits and put them in the freezer. I will soon bake cornbread to put in the freezer. It is nice to be able to go to the freezer and grab a biscuit or a slice of cornbread and heat it up when I want it. I am not looking forward to the cold of winter but I do look forward to having homemade soup, stew and other yummy foods I don’t eat other times of the year. I do not enjoy cooking so when I do cook some things I prepare enough of them for the freezer so I don’t have to cook often.

Now when the election has come and gone and all the mud slinging politics is over I will be totally thrilled.

Have a great day everyone and thank you for stopping by. Hugs and blessings, Mags.

  1. My daughter and I took a bunch of items to donate a few days ago. This is definitely a good time of the year to do this. Sounds like you have been keeping yourself busy. I too wish the politics were over, but then they start the mug-slinging for the presidental race – it seems to never end. Always nice to cook ahead and freeze food for later. Love the bisquits and cornbread. Have a good day and enjoy our cooler Arkansas weather.

    • Thank you Peggy for stopping by and commenting. You also keep enjoying the cooler weather. You are right about the next election I will be glad when it is all over. At least after next month I won’t have to hear and see all going on in my neighborhood about the local politicians running for office. Have a great day.

  2. Unfortunately the political scene around the world shows we can only vote for those who do us the least harm and there is no merit in political promises because they are never kept. We do seem to accumulate stuff don’t we? πŸ™‚

    • You are right about the political scene Ian. It is ridiculous all that I have found that has been accumulated over the years. At least most of what I found someone else will be able to use.

  3. I have never seen children act as poorly as our politicians! You have sure been busy Mags – indoors and out. Dan and I got the yard cleaned up but there is plenty of chores that are not getting done this year. Next year’s not looking good either between Molly and Dan’s shifts. Our new neighbours to the south of us seem to be getting a lot of work done lately. I would love to get some baking done but Dan has our freezer filled with meat. He went to put a little package of sausage in it this afternoon and after fighting to find a spot for it he decided it was time to stop buying meat. πŸ™„

    • I am trying to get all done that I can Anne while I feel energetic and my spirits are higher than they were for awhile. I am pretty good at procrastinating when I am not in the mood to do something. But when the mood hits me I usually get a lot done. My husband loved meat and our freezer was much like what you say yours is. I don’t eat that much meat so there is little meat in the freezer now.

      • Ours tend to fill up with meat and ice cream. πŸ˜‚ We do use a lot of fresh vegetables year round and seldom use frozen entree type things, so I guess it works out. I am glad that you have been feeling better. At our age it is so hard to get back up when we get knocked down. Shingles started my last downfall, I went through a number of health issues ending with a hernia operation and the recovery from that finished me off. That was where I was last February when I finally decided I had to quit procrastinating and start moving. Procrastinating was so much easier. 😯 Or so I thought at the time. πŸ™„. Take care and have a great day, Mags. πŸ’žπŸŒž

  4. Happy Birthday nose kisses and tummy tickles for Sweet Chancy man! Sis, I wish I had your energy. It’s still summer here so I have hopes of cooler days to do some things. I seem to collect so much and don’t know how I did it-LOL Like you, I’m ready for the muck raking to go away. I’m bent on positive thoughts and wishes for the good things in life. Sending you huge hugs and love and lots of nose kisses and ear scratches for Chancy. ❀ ❀

    • I will see that Chancy gets those nose kisses and tummy tickles, you know he loves them Sis. I don’t know how much longer the energy will last so I am doing all I can for as long as I can. There are things here that my Shug accumulated over the years so I am donating what I can of them plus some things of mine that there is no need for. Thank you for the hugs and love. We love you all and send huge hugs all around and nose kisses and tummy rubs for sweet Bella. ❀

  5. I will certainly second the desire for the mud slinging to stop, but it probably won’t. It is like listening to children any more: “did so” “did not” “did too.” Nice you are getting some things done. I am getting things done outside now that the weather is nicer!
